RE: The tariff classification of various bearing cages from India

Dear Mr. Ward:

In your letter dated September 20, 2007 you requested a tariff classification ruling on behalf of Harsha Engineers Limited.

The articles in question are described as bearing cages that are used to separate the rolling elements of the bearing. In particular, you plan to import tapered roller bearing cages, needle roller bearing cages, cylindrical roller bearing cages, deep groove bearing cages and angular contact bearing cages. Descriptive literature and samples were submitted.

The applicable subheading for the tapered roller bearing cages will be 8482.99.4500, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for parts of tapered roller bearings. The rate of duty will be 5.8 percent ad valorem.

The applicable subheading for the needle roller bearing cages will be 8482.99.6530, HTSUS, which provides for parts for needle bearings. The rate of duty will be 5.8 percent ad valorem.

The applicable subheading for the cylindrical roller bearing cages will be 8482.99.6560, HTSUS, which provides for parts for other cylindrical roller bearings. The rate of duty will be 5.8 percent ad valorem.

The applicable subheading for the deep groove and angular contact bearing cages will be 8482.99.3500, HTSUS, which provides for parts of ball bearings (including parts of ball bearings with integral shafts). The rate of duty will be 9.9 percent ad valorem. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. The text of the most recent HTSUS and the accompanying duty rates are provided on World Wide Web at http://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).

A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If you have any questions regarding the ruling, contact National Import Specialist Kenneth T. Brock at 646-733-3009.
